Defining the Code Review Category: Why We Invested in CodeRabbit

We are excited to announce our investment in CodeRabbit’s $143M Series C round, co-led by Atomico and Smash Capital, alongside Datadog, Hirtle Callaghan, SineWave Ventures, and existing investors including CRV and Scale Venture Partners.
In our view, code quality is what matters most in this new era of software development, as AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex are increasingly responsible for generating a drastically increasing percentage of the codebase. The new bottleneck has become understanding and verifying code at scale. We see CodeRabbit emerging as the category leader for AI-driven code review. Bringing judgment and trust to code at scale while maintaining velocity is now more crucial than ever.
This challenge concentrates at the point at which a team decides whether a change meets its quality bar, how much risk it carries, what it means for the wider system, and whether it should be accepted.
Why an Independent Layer Wins
We believe the strongest and most durable market position will be owned by an independent review layer. Winning large engineering teams requires enterprise-grade governance, security, and compliance, along with the flexibility to encode each company’s own standards. Increasingly, this layer needs to combine an organization's own standards with the ability to handle codebase complexity and satisfy compliance and audit requirements.
Why CodeRabbit
CodeRabbit reviews every code change at the “pull request” using repository-wide context, organizational standards, and evidence gathered from isolated test environments. Its differentiation lies in the proprietary context engine that brings together the relevant repository, ticket, and historical context before inference, maps the impact of a change across the codebase, and validates potential issues before surfacing them. This moat deepens with usage as an organization's context and standards become embedded in the system.
Why We Invested
- An emerging category leader with an outstanding growth profile: revenue grew more than fivefold year over year, serving over 17,000 customers.
- CodeRabbit automates first-pass review at scale and surfaces the highest-priority findings, saving engineering teams significant time and reducing the cost of manual review.
- By detecting errors, security issues, and architectural risks early, it catches problems before they reach production and helps teams ship at a consistently high quality.
- It combines standards, learnings, and context from across large engineering teams into genuinely shared organizational knowledge.

With this round, CodeRabbit is expanding beyond review into the surrounding workflow, prioritizing which changes deserve human attention, explaining how each change affects the wider system, and continuously monitoring production code for security risks. The company is also deepening its international footprint, building on its recently opened London office and a growing team across Europe. We are excited to partner with the CodeRabbit team as they define this category and build the independent control layer for software written by people and agents alike.
